Topic: Where Does My Help Truly Come From?

Scripture (KJV):

“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.

My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.”

— Psalm 121:1–2

Devotional Message

Life often presents moments when the weight of responsibility, uncertainty, and fear feels overwhelming. In such seasons, it is natural to look around for help—toward people, positions, resources, or opportunities we believe can rescue us. The psalmist begins this passage by lifting his eyes to the hills, a symbolic gesture of searching for strength beyond himself. Yet he quickly answers his own question with clarity and conviction: true help does not come from what we see, but from the Lord who made all things.

Psalm 121 reminds us that our confidence should not rest in human systems or temporary solutions. Hills may represent power, protection, or stability, but even these are created things. The psalmist points us beyond creation to the CreatorGod is not limited by time, distance, or circumstance. The One who formed heaven and earth has the authority and ability to intervene in every area of our lives.

This truth brings comfort and reassurance. When our strength is depleted and our options seem exhausted, God remains constant. He does not grow tired, distracted, or unavailable. His help is dependable, personal, and perfectly timed. Trusting in the Lord means acknowledging that while people may fail and situations may change, God’s power and faithfulness remain unshaken.

As we go through today, this passage invites us to realign our focus. Instead of asking who will help us, we are encouraged to remember where our help truly comes from. When we lift our eyes to the Lord in prayerfaith, and obedience, we position ourselves to receive the help that only He can provide.

Lessons to Learn

1. God is the ultimate source of help

Human assistance is valuable, but it is limited. True and lasting help comes from the Lord.

2. Looking up is an act of faith

Lifting our eyes to God reflects trust in His power rather than dependence on circumstances.

3. The Creator is greater than the problem

The One who made heaven and earth is more than able to handle every challenge we face.

4. God’s help is constant and reliable

Unlike people, God never withdraws His support or abandons those who trust in Him.

Reflection Question

Where have you been looking for help lately, and how can you shift your focus fully toward trusting God today?

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, I lift my eyes to You today, acknowledging that my help comes from You alone. Teach me to trust You beyond what I see and feel. Strengthen my faith and remind me that You are always present and able. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
