Topic: Learning to Walk in God’s Will
Bible Verse (KJV):
“Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.”
— Psalm 143:10
Devotional Message
One of the deepest prayers a believer can pray is not for success, comfort, or quick answers—but for guidance. In Psalm 143:10, David humbly comes before God with a simple yet powerful request: “Teach me to do thy will.” This is the cry of a heart that desires alignment, not control.
David understood something many of us struggle with today: knowing God is not enough—we must also learn to follow His ways. Life constantly presents choices, pressures, and paths that seem right in our own eyes. Yet human wisdom is limited. God’s will, on the other hand, is perfect, purposeful, and filled with peace.
Notice that David doesn’t ask God to show him the way once; he asks God to teach him. Teaching implies a process—learning, correction, patience, and growth. Walking with God is not about instant perfection but daily dependence. As we submit our plans, desires, and decisions to Him, His Spirit gently leads us toward uprightness—toward a life that honors Him.
God’s Spirit is described as good. This means His guidance is never harsh, confusing, or destructive. Even when the path is challenging, it is safe. Even when the lesson is difficult, it is loving. When we allow God to lead us, He takes us away from confusion and into clarity, away from compromise and into righteousness.
Today’s world encourages self-direction, but today’s verse reminds us that true peace is found in divine direction. When God leads, we are never lost.
Lessons to Learn from Psalm 143:10
1.God’s will must be learned, not assumed
Following God requires humility and a teachable heart.
2. Submission invites divine guidance
When we surrender control, God steps in to lead us clearly.
3. The Holy Spirit leads us toward righteousness
God’s Spirit never leads us into confusion or sin.
4. Spiritual growth is a daily journey
God teaches us step by step, not all at once.
Reflection Question
Are you asking God to bless your plans, or are you allowing Him to guide your steps?
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Teach me to do Your will, not my own. I surrender my plans, my thoughts, and my decisions to You. Lead me by Your good Spirit into a life that pleases You. Remove every confusion from my heart and guide me in the path of righteousness. I trust You completely.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
