Ability to perceive truth and apply Scripture effectively to life's conditions (Hebrews 5:14).
Servant's Heart
Willingness to serve others selflessly, following Jesus' example (Mark 10:45).
Other indicators include constant prayer life, healthy relationships, emotional stability, and a rising yearning for God's will over personal preferences.
Practical Steps Toward Growth
Spiritual progress doesn't happen by chance. Here are fundamental behaviours for developing in Christ:
1. Regular Bible Study
God's Word is our spiritual food (1 Peter 2:2). Consistent study and meditation on Scripture affects our thinking and aligns us with God's truth.
2. Prayer and Worship
Developing an intimate prayer life enhances our relationship with God. Worship puts our attention on who God is rather than our circumstances.
3. Christian Community
We become better together (Hebrews 10:24-25). Fellowship provides accountability, support, and opportunity to exercise Christlike love.
4. Serving Others
Maturity is evaluated by our capacity to love and serve. Using our spiritual gifts builds up the church and stretches our faith.
5. Overcoming Trials
Difficulties are God's growing instruments (James 1:2-4). How we respond to adversity reflects and deepens our spiritual growth.
The Role of the Holy Spirit
While we must be proactive about progress, true change is the work of the Holy Spirit in us. Our part is to succumb to His leadership and participate with His activity in our lives.
As we give more aspects of our lives to God's direction, the Spirit produces His fruit in us and shapes us to Christ's image (2 Corinthians 3:18).
